Development of Homoeopathic Philosophy

Samuel Hahnemann became dissatisfied with the medical practices of his time because treatments such as bloodletting and excessive drugging often harmed patients.

While translating Cullen’s Materia Medica in 1790, he experimented on himself with Cinchona bark and observed symptoms similar to intermittent fever. This observation eventually led to the principle of Similia Similibus Curentur (Like cures like).

Over the following years Hahnemann developed the foundations of Homeopathy through careful observation, drug proving, and clinical experience.

Key Points:

  • Dissatisfaction with old school medicine
  • Cinchona experiment
  • Discovery of Law of Similars
  • Beginning of Homeopathic philosophy
